Familias de la Luna Support Groups – Starting Soon!

Luz de la Luna is launching TWO new virtual peer support groups. 🌟

As a Latinx mother and immigrant, I deeply understand the importance of community during the early years of parenting. That's why one of the first groups I will be launching is a Spanish-speaking support group specifically for Latinx moms.

The English Familias de la Luna group is designed with intersectionality in mind, specifically for Queer BIPOC Neurodivergent parents. It will be a space to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of navigating our identities as parents while living in a world that often overlooks neurodivergent individuals.

These spaces are designed to foster community, connection, and support. 🌈💜

If you or someone you know might be interested, please share! Let’s build these empowering spaces together!

This will be a safe, inclusive space where you can connect with others, share your experiences, discuss mental health, and access resources that truly understand your unique needs as a parent. 🙌

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What to Expect:

  • Connection & Community

  • Mental Health Support for Parents

  • Practical Resources & Empowering Discussions

  • Safe Space to Be Your Authentic Self

In the English Familias de la Luna Group we will cover these topics, and more:

  • The Impact of Mental Health on Parenting: We will explore how mental health challenges affect parenting queer and BIPOC. Discuss ways to balance personal mental health needs while ensuring the emotional and physical needs of your children are met. We will take some time to reflect on the effects of systemic racism, homophobia, and ableism on our mental health as Queer BIPOC Neurodivergent parents.

  • Navigating Parenting and Neurodivergence: We will discuss how being neurodivergent impacts parenting styles and strategies. How do you navigate the challenges of parenting while being neurodivergent? Share experiences and tips for self-care, managing sensory overload, and supporting neurodivergent children while we support ourselves.

  • Social Justice and Advocacy, Increasing Access to Resources and Rights for Queer BIPOC Neurodivergent Families: We will engage in conversations about advocating for systemic changes that benefit neurodivergent, queer, and BIPOC families. Share insights into navigating the educational system, healthcare services, and government resources. Discuss how we have been working to increase access and demand better support for mental health and disability services.

  • Building Community and Support Networks: How to Create and Maintain Safe Spaces for Neurodivergent Queer BIPOC Families: Focus on the importance of building community with other queer, neurodivergent, and BIPOC families. Discuss strategies for creating or finding supportive spaces that understand and validate the unique experiences of this intersectional identity.

In our Latinx Spanish Mom group we will cover these topics and more:

  • Strategies for stress and anxiety as a mother: discussion of strategies for overcoming the stress and anxiety that often accompany parenting, especially for mothers who have to do multiple roles, while taking into account cultural expectations and pressures.

  • Early childhood development (stages and activities): Discussion of the stages of early childhood development and how to engage in age-appropriate activities that support cognitive, emotional and physical growth.

  • Navigating the Education System: Here we will share tips and strategies for advocating for children's needs in school and early education, including how to collaborate with teachers and support academic success.

  • Culturally Competent Therapy and Mental Health Resources: Discussing the importance of finding culturally competent mental health providers and resources that understand the unique needs of Latinx families, and how to navigate mental health systems that may feel inaccessible.
